Why do people bite their nails?
Most people who bite their nails will do so because they fall into one of two main categories. People who bite their nails regularly will usually recognise which applies to them...
- Habit nail biting - these people will bite their nails absent mindedly, and will often do it without thinking about it. If they put their minds to it, they can easily stop biting their nails, but when they stop actively thinking about it, they go back to biting their nails
- Nail biting as a reaction to anxiety or stress - these people bite their nails as a reaction to anxiety or stress, and will often find it very difficult to stop biting their nails, even for a short time
Habit nail biting
As we've said these people simply bit their nails through absent-mindedness, or sometimes boredom. These people usually find it easy to stop biting their nails when they put their mind to it, and usually they'll just need a little bit of help in maintaining that motivation to stop biting their nails.
This type of nail biting can often respond really well to a form of hypnotherpy known as 'suggestion hypnotherapy'
Nail biting as a reaction to anxiety or stress
These people usually bite their nails as a reaction to anxiety or stress, and will often find it very difficult to stop biting their nails, even for a short time.
No matter how much effor they put into stopping biting their nails, they never really seem to be able to stop biting their nails even for a short time.
They will find that they bite their nails when they are feeling anxious, or stressed, or in anticipation of doing something that makes them feel anxious.
For these people, it's often best to not so much tackle the nail biting directly, it's often best to tackle the stress or anxiety head on, and that's where a therapy such as pure hypnoanalysis can help.
Pure hypnoanalysis helps by resolving the anxiety, stress, or emotional problem that's causing them to bite their nails, and once that root cause is resolved, nail biting is no longer needed by the person as a stress relief or comfort.
