What is a panic attack?
A panic attack is a sudden feeling of intense anxiety or stress, that can happen completely 'out of the blue' and can happen at almost any time in a person's life.
Some people will only experience one panic attack in their life, whereas for other people, panic attacks will happpen more regularly, and for some people, panic attacks happen all the time.
A panic atack will usually last from just a few minutes to perhaps a half an hour, and is uslly described as an incredibly strong feeling of panic or fear, which can often be accompanied by psychological or physical symptoms.
What are the symptoms of a panic attack?
The symptoms of a panic attack will vary from person to person, but can include any of the following:
- Shaking
- Difficulty in breathing, or shortness of breath
- Abnormally rapid heartbeat
- Excessive sweating
- Chest tightness
- Chest pain
- Abnormal sensations of the skin
- Raised blood pressure
- Tension and apprehension
- The feeling that 'something terrible' is going to happen.
- A specific fear of death
Can hypnotherapy help with panic attacks?
Well, yes, hypnotherapy can help with panic attacks, but it does have to be the right kind of hypnotherapy.
Suggestion hypnotherapy for example, is usually used to simply 'manage' the symptoms of a problem, whereas something like pure hypnoanalysis is more suited to resolving the problem, so it's important to use the right kind of hypnotherapy for you.
The easiest way to know which might be the right kind of hypnotherapy might be right for you, is to meet with either Paul or Denise, and have a chat with them about the symptoms you're having.
